The leader of Nottingham City Council's told Capital education clearly isn't having enough of an affect in stopping knife crime.

Jon Collins wants to see a change in penalties - to introduce a minimum automatic prison term for another caught with a knife in public.

He says action over gun crime helped reduce shootings in the city a decade ago.

It comes after 18 year old Matthew Rothery was stabbed to death in Mapperly Park last week.

20 year old Nathan Towsley, of Braunton Crescent, been charged with his murder.
