Leading Media Analyst Says Seymour Hersh, Robert Fisk and John Pilger Got It Wrong on Syria
How could some of our journalistic heroes like Seymour Hersch, John Pilger and Robert Fisk get their coverage of the Syria conflict so wrong, even accused of blaming the opposition for warcrimes committed by the Assad regime? Academic and media analyst Muhammad Idrees Ahmad, who exposed as false in the Los Angelos Times, Seymour Hersh’s attempt to exonerate President Bashar al-Assad for the chemical weapons attack and blame it on the opposition, tells Ronan L Tynan why he believes these iconic figures among the ranks of progressive journalists failed the people of Syrian in their reporting of one of the most brutal conflicts of our time. Muhammad Idrees Ahmad is Co-editor of PULSE and author of 'The Road to Iraq: The Making of a Neoconservative War.' Ronan L Tynan is an award winning filmmaker and co-founder of Esperanza Productions.
The interview was recorded at a special seminar on media coverage of the Syria conflict - 'Correcting the Narrative' jointly organised by the London Middle East Institute at SOAS, University of London, and the Centre for Middle East Studies at the University of Denver.
