October 2014: Fascists! Fascists? - Plaid and the charges of extremism (Part One)
For decades Plaid Cymru have stood accused of sympathising with Fascism during the 1930s. The publication of Richard Wyn Jones’s book on ‘Welsh Nationalism and the Accusation of Fascism’ in English earlier this year challenged the charges against Plaid. But in a new essay for the IWA Tim Williams, one of the leaders of the No campaign in the 1997 referendum, offered a robust rebuttal: http://www.clickonwales.org/2014/09/know-a-hero-by-his-heroes-saunders-lewis-beyond-apologetics
The IWA has publishing a series of essays and held a discussion on the charges and their relevance for modern Welsh politics. Former First Minister Rhodri Morgan, Robert Stradling - author of the seminal book on Wales and the Spanish Civil War, lecturer in creative writing Jasmine Donahaye joined Richard Wyn Jones in a debate chaired by Editor of ITV Wales Politics, Nick Powell at an event in the National Assembly on October 1st 2014.
