D'LO- He, Him, & His Part 2
We didn't get enough of D' Lo so we had to have him back for a part 2. If you missed part 1, stop reading...seriously...go listen to the episode called "He, Him, and His"...we will wait... Great! Now welcome to this week's episode, where we continue the education. D Lo picks off right where we left off talking about his transition and how that has affected his body. He opens up about his top surgery, and the etiquette that is required around talking about it. He shares how it is the best decision he has made and what other steps there are to transition, i.e. testosterone. But we wanted him back not just to talk about his gender identity, but also his identity as a South Asian/Desi. We explore the discomfort many Sri Lankans feel with the term "Desi", and that many Lankans found a less than reciprocal cultural relationship with Indians. He clues us in to the similarities and differences between the two lands, and how those differences contribute to a hierarchy we experience here in the states. The conversation winds down with discussion of his partner and how they came together. Was it important to be with someone South Asian? Did that just happen? How did Anjali, D'Lo's partner, and him navigate their relationship with her parents? This leads us to the topic of where the community is now in terms of the way it handles these issues. Back from our week off of discussion, in a few days we will drop a fun discussion of both these episodes so chime in on our social media platforms and our website. Happy listening.
