Yumi Wilson returns to the show to give us another lesson on using LinkedIn. So many of us use LinkedIn but do not take advantage of all they have to offer. In this episode, you will learn about the publishing platform on LinkedIn; personal status updates; "people you may know" section on your home page; sending a message to someone you share a group or network with; and, the "Do's and Dont's" on Linkedin.
Yumi Wilson is the Manager of Corporate Communications at LinkedIn, the former Community Manager for LinkedIn for Journalists and Friends of LinkedIn, an Associate Professor of Journalism at San Francisco State University and the Board President of Exceptional Women in Publishing
As the manager in Corporate Communications, she trains journalists to leverage LinkedIn for research, reporting and sourcing and moderate the LinkedIn for Journalists group, which has grown from 16,000 one year ago to nearly 52,000+ members. She is uniquely positioned to do this job because she has experience as a general assignment reporter, op-ed writer and deputy readers' representative. She has also worked as a blogger and curator at several publications and is very familiar working on various content management systems.
In addition, she is devising and leading a training program for Corporate Communications teams and public relations professionals around the world on how they can leverage LinkedIn to enhance their company's brand and professional identity. Her career began many years ago in Los Angeles, where she was hired as a news woman by the Associated Press right after graduating from USC in 1990. She eventually left Los Angeles and headed up to the Bay Area, where she worked as a reporter and editor for the San Francisco Chronicle for 11 years before becoming a tenure-track professor at San Francisco State. She received tenure in 2011.
