Report from Wonderland, Part 2

Apr 11, 2014, 06:19 PM

The Social Network Show welcomes back Dr. Maria Tatar on April 11, 2014 for Part 2 of looking at the benefits of reading to children.

We continue to explore the benefits of reading to children and it's connection to building values, empathy and curiosity. We talk about this in relation to preventing online aggression later in life.

Hear Dr. Tatar talk about Chapter 12 in Alice in Wonderland. Hear her thoughts on technology and take a look at a book (The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman) and a video (Slomo a video on The New York Times website featuring Dr. John Kitchin), that she recommends.

Dr. Maria Tatar is a professor at Harvard University and teaches folklore, children's literature, and German cultural studies. She has written many books and is the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. She has written for the New York Times, the New Republic, and the Harvard Crimson. Her work has also been featured on the Today Show and in Harvard Magazine.
