The remark was made during an exchange with Andrew Neil about the budget deficit. Lawson clearly has no appreciation that unlike France, where he lives, there is no law in England, Wales or Scotland that requires suspected or known abuse of a child to be reported to the authorities. The Government, of which he was part, supported this failed position.
