Pacific Northwest defeats Ohio Valley 9-6
Simeon Howard went 3-3 at the plate, sparking Pacific Northwest to a 9-6 victory in six innings over Ohio Valley on Monday at Cal Sr. Yard.
Trenton Taylor racked up three RBIs on three hits for Ohio Valley. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the third and fifth innings.
Howard got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over three innings. He struck out six, walked one and surrendered five hits. Jack Torbey was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
Pacific Northwest closer Connor Mendez put away the final nine outs to record the save.
The game was never in doubt after the first, as Pacific Northwest scored two runs on an RBI double by Howard and an RBI single by Ben Johnson.
After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the third, Ohio Valley faced just a 5-3 deficit. A two-run double by Max Vandyke gave Ohio Valley life. But, Howard got Vincent Ethington to ground out to end the inning.
Pacific Northwest piled on four more runs in the top of the fourth. The inning got off to a hot start when Howard singled, bringing home Ayden Knapik.
Three runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Ohio Valley close its deficit to 9-6. A two-run double by Taylor and fueled Ohio Valley's comeback. Finally, Mendez induced an inning-ending ground out from Ethington.
