8/1/16: Midwest Plains vs Southwest
Southwest outlast Midwest Plains in high-scoring affair, 11-9.
Southwest and Midwest Plains lit up the scoreboard on Monday as they combined for 20 runs. In the end, Southwest won the offensive battle 11-9 in six innings.
The teams banged out 29 hits hits between them, as well as seven for extra bases.
Southwest starter Walton Reid struggled, allowing seven in 5 1/3 innings, but the bullpen gave up two runs and the offense banged out 15 to pick up the slack and secure the win for Southwest.
Even in defeat, Luke Meyers played well for Midwest Plains.
Luke Meyers went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for Midwest Plains. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the fourth and sixth innings.
Luke Meyers was in control on the bump. Luke Meyers held Southwest hitless over two-thirds of an inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.
Southwest would not relinquish the lead as Midwest Plains was unable to weather a nine-run third inning deficit.
Midwest Plains scored on an RBI single by Danny Brady and an RBI double by Nate McHugh in the fifth inning and , an RBI single by Finn O'Donnell, an RBI single by Andrew Rusin, and a two-run double by Elliot Bowen in the sixth inning. Still, Midwest Plains couldn't catch Southwest.
Southwest easily handled Midwest Plains pitching as six hitters combined for 12 hits, seven RBIs and nine runs scored.
Jonah Evans ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed seven runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked none and struck out none.
Midwest Plains jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Luke Dinges got things going for Midwest Plains with a single. Then moved Luke Dinges from first to second. Luke Meyers doubled, plating Luke Dinges. More runs came home for Midwest Plains when Meyers scored.
The game was never in doubt after the second, as Southwest scored three runs on an RBI double by Aaron Skipworth, a groundout by Caleb Mahan, and an RBI single by Cody Watson.
Southwest added eight more runs in the bottom of the third. The inning got off to a hot start when Charlie Cochran singled, scoring Jesse Johnston. That was followed up by Preston Junkin's double, bringing home Cochran.
