Mark Goodier - Top 40
'The Chart' is a British tradition: moving it to a Sunday evening slot on the Light Programme was scheduling genius. Franklin Engelmann is credited as the first host in 1955 although, in truth, the show did not evolve into a 'chart' as such until a couple of years later. Commercial radio joined in too with great success. with its first 'pan-UK' show: 'The Network Chart'.
The BBC Radio 1 chart has variously counted down the Top 20, 30 or 40, with a solo presenter or, more recently duos. Here, Mark Goodier shows his skills. He, like Simon Bates, enjoyed two spells on the show: 1990-1992; and 1995-2002.
