Scotland is considering offering free abortions to women from Northern Ireland, it is being reported.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is said to be examining ways the procedure could be made available in Scotland on the NHS.

Last week the UK's highest court narrowly rejected an appeal by a mother and daughter in their legal battle for women from Northern Ireland to receive free abortions on the NHS in England.

Supreme Court justices announced their three to two majority decision in London.

The woman at the centre of the appeal was 15 years old in October 2012 when she and her mother travelled from Northern Ireland to Manchester. She had to pay hundreds of pounds for a private termination because she was excluded from free abortion services.

Last year five girls under 16 from Northern Ireland - made the journey to England for an abortion.
