Last week was carers week..And did you know there are nearly a quarter of a million people in Northern Ireland providing care to an older, disabled or seriously ill loved one. Our reporter, Nicola Weir, went to see Esme Charles at her home in Cookstown. She's been looking after for her husband, Denis, for over forty years after he was diagnosed with MS just seven years after they were married. Esme spoke to Nicola about the trauma of the diagnosis, her struggle to cope with her husband's deteriorating health and how her role of carer has tested her physically, mentally and emotionally.
