Brad & Dan- Dec. 6, 2017: Grassroots group looking to raise opioid epidemic awareness
"The Coalition for a Better Wallingford" is working hard to raise awareness of the opioid crisis running rampant through the U.S., including in their own community. The epidemic received massive coverage, during a recent 60 Minutes feature.
On a special Brad & Dan program, Ken Welsh, president of the coalition, talked about their grassroots effort. Also on the interview were Wallingford Mayor Bill Dickinson, Jen Short, co-founder of the group - her daughter died from opioid use - Craig Turner, director of Wallingford's Youth and Social Services, former Connecticut pharmacist of the year Ernie Mirazik and Joann Peterson, founder of Massachusetts-based "Learn to Cope."
Also, making a special appearance on the show was Joe Rannazzisi, a former deputy assistant in the Drug Enforcement Agency, who blew the whistle on the government's relationship with the drug distributors, including the passage of the Marino Bill.
