Pierz Pioneers vs Little Falls Flyers Wrestling 2018
In the Main Event of Friday night's Little Falls Quad, the Pierz Pioneers stepped onto the mat with the host Flyers in a match that is always highly anticipated and tightly contested. 2018 would be no different. The Pioneers never trailed in the Dual and at one point held a 22-0 lead. Then the Flyers rattled of 18 straight points, highlighted by pins from Leo Wilczek and Dakota Kern to make it 22-18 after 8 matches. Brandon Tomala got 6 of those points back for Pierz with his own win by Fall to make it 28-18. That brought up a 160 lb match up between Reese Kapsner of Pierz and Simon Bryce. Bryce had defeated Kapsner 5-3 in Overtime at the Paul Bunyan Tournament earlier in the season but on Friday, Reese controlled the rematch and took a 7-4 win to make it 31-18 in favor of Pierz. Grant Litke's win for the Flyers made it 31-21 and then Tony Winkelman added a pinto bring the Flyers within 4 at 31-27 with 3 matches left. Sam Nagel and Carson Huls waged a good match at 195 with Nagel prevailing 5-2 and making the score 31-30 heading to the 220 lb match. In that match featuring Luke Girtz of Pierz and Luke Venske of Little Falls, Girtz sealed the Pioneers victory with a late 3rd period pin to put the Dual out of reach. The Flyers Ryan Graves won by Fall at Heavyweight to finish off the night with the Pioneers defeating the Flyers 37-36.
