Liverpool act swiftly over Van Dijk and Coutinho; dissecting the Conte v Mourinho war of words
The opening of the January transfer window has already seen a flurry of activity, most notably from Liverpool who welcomed Virgil van Dijk in a record deal for a defender while waving goodbye to Philippe Coutinho with the Brazilian finally joining Barcelona. Chelsea have also been swift to move, landing Ross Barkley from Everton four months after the midfielder initially turned down a move to the Premier League champions. Arsene Wenger faces more questions at Arsenal after their exit from the FA Cup third round, while the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are no closer to being resolved. There has also been the first managerial sacking of the new year as Mark Hughes departs Stoke City following a sorry first half of the season. Away from the pitch, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and his Manchester United counterpart -- and Stamford Bridge predecessor -- Jose Mourinho have engaged in an escalating war of words, but over at Manchester City it seems it's business as usual. In this week's Extra Time podcast, Jon Turner, Steve Luckings and Graham Caygill discuss all the big developments from the Premier League and the FA Cup third round.
