"The year 1984 marked widespread bloodshed as the Anti-Sikh riots engulfed the country. After the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi more than 2000 people were killed in Delhi alone. However, 33 years after the incident, the Supreme Court of India has decided to re-open as much as 186 cases related to the Anti-Sikh violence. The Supreme Court stated that it will set up a Special Investigation Team to look into the cases in which investigations were closed, a news agency reported.

The Supreme Court will also constitute a three-member panel to look into the cases. However, it has asked Centre’s suggestions by today itself for the panel. Reportedly, the panel will be led by a former high court judge.
