Rupert Murdoch’s News empire is undergoing huge transformations, with 21st Century Fox and Sky entertaining big bids from the likes of Disney and US telecoms giant Comcast, potentially changing the media landscape forever.
One man who saw some of News International’s changes up close, and worked side by side with Murdoch through his biggest controversies, was Les Hinton, former executive chairman, who later became CEO of Dow Jones when Murdoch bought that.
He’s published an extraordinary memoir – Bootle Boy, an Untidy Life In News – charting his life from wartime Bootle, just north of Liverpool, to Australia, then Fleet Street and Wapping, and on to the US.
