Episode 256,   Nov 29, 2018, 11:57 PM

Stat. 1 in 3 women have been a victim of physical or sexual violence, since the age of 15, by someone known to them. Stat. 1 woman dies almost every week at the hands of a current or former partner. Stat. 1 in 4 young people don’t think it’s serious when guys insult or verbally harass girls in the street.

Stat. This. Is. Never. Acceptable.

Behind every stat is a human life. So, it’s time we proactivity approach this issue in Geelong and become part of the solution.

With the heartbreaking news reports lately around assaults and attacks, Krock Drive Show the Departure Lounge knew how important it is for women and men to feel safe walking the streets day and night.

Together with Fiona from WISE self-defence, Stampsy & Jamie hosted a one night only lesson on how to protect ourselves if we ever face the scenario of being attacked by somebody (in any capacity) as well as tools to make sure we're as safe as we can be when out and about.

Fiona Skene, owner and trainer at WISE self-defence “I want to empower people to make positive decisions in their lives so they can take control and live a more fulfilling life. Wise self-defence is all about understanding power. We have physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, financial, environmental, linguistical and intentional power. The education of WISE Self Defence is all about harnessing you own power and making a difference in your life.”

Held at the Wool Exchange Entertainment Complex Stampsy, Jamie and Departure Lounge listeners were taken through physical and verbal tactics to defuse situations and protect themselves in vulnerable situations. They were taken through mindset coaching, physical defence moves and steps to live safely.

Co-host Stampsy “It was incredibly rewarding to be able to host an evening such as this. Those who came along tonight felt empowered and supported, and that’s what the night was all about. I’m so proud to be able to use our show to encourage positive change, to have the tough discussions and have our listeners take away real life skills. It was awesome to have the calibre of Fiona from WISE lead us in the evening”

Listeners on the evening said it was “educational”, “empowering”, “insightful” and “important to arm yourself with the hope you are never in the position to actually need it but can defend yourself if the need arrises”.
