14th December 2018 - FA Trophy, FA Cup, Southport, Hartlepool United, Hayes & Yeading United
Tim Fuell delves into the FA Trophy First Round Proper as the competition reaches the last 64.
First up owner of Southport FC, Phil Hodgkinson ahead of his side's massive cup week. Hosting fellow FA Cup replay remainers Solihill Moors in this weekend's FA Trophy the club face a tough challenge, but perhaps not as tough as Monday's home FA Cup replay against Tranmere Rovers. With the prize of a televised FA Cup Third Round tie against Tottenham Hotspur awaiting the winners, it's interesting times for the Sandgrounders. Made more interesting because their FA Trophy rivals Solihull Moors have their own FA Cup replay on Tuesday at Blackpool with another TV screened FA Cup Third Round tie, this time at home to Arsenal, the carrot awaiting.
Hartlepool United are new to the FA Trophy but new manager Richard Money believes it is the sort of competition they should be looking to do well in. He admits their trip to Leamington on Saturday is a tough one but he knows the rewards success in the competition can bring having won with Cambridge United.
Paul Hughes is manager at Hayes & Yeading United of the Isthmian South Central Division in Step 4. Having knocked three step 3 sides already out of this season's FA Trophy, his side face a very tough trip to current holders Brackley Town. The odds might be against them but the West London side are in form, in goals and in the mood to take cup scalps.
Rounding it all off Matt Badcock returns with the Non League Paper round up including Billericay Town, managers looking to get back into a hotseat and the cup competitions ahead.
