Ep2: The Art Of Giving - Jonny Lee

Season 2,   Aug 10, 2020, 03:00 AM

This week we talk to Jonny Lee the founder of the charity Last Night A DJ Saved My Life about the art of giving

The electronic dance music industry is known for its superstar DJs and dynamic club culture, its synonymous with partying hard and good times but perhaps not with so well known as the rock and pop music industry for raising money and supporting charity, despite the billions of dollars dance music generates every year (* yes 2020 apart which has been something of a challenging year).

My guest this week set out 10 years ago to change this view and make a difference where he saw not enough being done. He set out to challenge existing beliefs about the contribution dance music could make, to show what could be done when a compassionate industry came together behind a clear purpose and to make an impact in the lives of children in crisis all over the world.

Jonny Lee is the visionary founder of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life a charitable foundation creating opportunities & fundraising initiatives to enable the dance music industry to make a positive impact in support of children in crisis. Jonny is a dance music pioneer, an acid house missionary, taker of big risks and a bundle of positive energy.

We meet up on the cliffs of south east Ibiza, surrounded by whispering pines, bird song and the hum of cicadas. The spot we meet at is a place Jonny gets huge inspiration from. We talk about his mojo journey and what happened to make him realise he just HAD to do more. Also, how his background in organising huge parties all over the world came in very handy for running a charity - where positive intent is met with synchronicity and magnetism. Jonny defines what the art of giving means to him and the difference the charity has made to lives of thousands of children in crisis.

We talk about the last Set For Love project - live stream events bringing DJs of all levels together to fundraise for emergency appeals during lockdown. You can join the likes of Carl Cox and Nightmares on Wax by getting involved in the forthcoming Set For Love on November 20th - which is International Children's Day.

And as I also mentioned last week, there is now some music to go with these mojo stories. I've asked all my guests to date to select just one song that really fuels their mojo. You can find the Spotify playlist here - Jonny's pick is a cracker!
