Valerie Jarrett: When We All Vote, Finding My Voice, and the Obama Administration
In this episode, Jill Wine-Banks and Victor Shi talk to Valerie Jarrett, about the importance of civic engagement and voting for all generations—especially the younger generation. We then talk about what it will take to reach young people and how they can be active participants in our democracy. We conclude with a discussion on Valerie’s inspiring memoir (now available in paperback edition), “Finding My Voice"—which reveals a unique childhood and shows how she achieved all she did—and her past experience being President Obama's longest-serving Senior Advisor.
Valerie Jarrett was the longest-serving senior adviser to President Barack Obama. She oversaw the Offices of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs and chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls. She currently is a board member of an organization that First Lady Michelle Obama co-chairs, called When We All Vote. This organization strives to increase civic engagement among the younger generation. She is also the author of "Finding My Voice: My Journey to the West Wing and the Path Forward."
