The cinema's owner, Judy Kim, shares that her parents purchased the Gardena Cinema in the 70s, and despite being Korean, they ran it as a Spanish-language theater to service their local community. Judy has shifted her legal career to focus on the family business during the Covid pandemic in order to continue its legacy and serve the community they love so much.
