FIRST LOOK AT THE TESLA SEMI’S STRANGELY-SHAPED, GENEROUS FRUNK
"A recent sighting of the Tesla Semi has provided a rare first look at the all-electric truck’s front trunk, better known in the electric car community as a frunk. Images taken of the storage space indicate that the Semi’s frunk is actually a pretty decent size, which would allow drivers to store more items in the all-electric vehicles during their travels." reports Simon Alvarez at Teslarati: "The image of the Tesla Semi’s frunk was provided by entrepreneur and Tesla enthusiast Jerome Mends-Cole, who runs SacTesla, a business that rents out electric cars like the Model 3, S, and X. Being close friends with the staff of Tesla’s Rocklin Store, Jerome received a call from the outlet informing him that the Semi will be paying a visit at the location. In a message to Teslarati, Jerome pointed out that the Semi’s frunk looked about the same size as the frunk of the Model S or X, though the storage area appeared like it had “a potential to go deeper.”"

TESLA SEMI TEST HINTS AT TOWING CAPACITY
"One of the new videos of the Tesla Semi spotted on the road provides us with an opportunity to wonder about the payload capacity of the all-electric truck. Tesla didn't yet reveal the number." says Mark Kane at InsideEVs: "The question is how much payload can the Semi can take within gross weight? It will depend on the version (Standard - 300 miles, or Long Range - 500 miles) as the longer-range Semi needs more batteries. Assuming a 15,000-20,000 pound weight of the Semi, the payload could be 45,000-50,000 lbs."

EFACEC IS DELIVERING 90 HPC CHARGERS TO ALLEGO
"The Portuguese charging station manufacturer Efacec has been selected by Allego to supply and install 90 high power chargers in Germany and the Netherlands over the next two years." says electrive.com: "Specifically, this is the HV350 HPC column, which enables charging capacities of up to 350 kW. With the HV350 and its liquid-cooled cable, electricity can be recharged for up to 30 kilometres in one minute. The devices will be used in a pan-European HPC project led by Allego. Although not explicitly mentioned by name, it is likely to be MEGA-E (Metropolitan Greater Areas Electrified). Last week, the first site in Germany went online."

PORSCHE TAYCAN INTERIOR AND USER INTERFACE LEAKS WITH ‘AUTOPILOT’ FEATURE
"A video of what appears to be the interior of the Porsche Taycan showing the dashboard and the user interface has leaked." reports Fred at Electrek: "Interestingly, it shows a feature called ‘Autopilot’ – like Tesla’s Autopilot. The Taycan is one of the most anticipated electric vehicles to hit the market in 2019.In the video, we get a first look at the user interface, including the strange gear shifter and the multiple screens. On the center console screen, you can see the navigation UI and a feature called ‘Autopilot’ – like Tesla’s Autopilot feature."

TESLA MODEL 3 ON SUPERCHARGER V3
From Dr Max Holland: "YouTuber Dagery recorded a charging session, showing the Tesla recovering 50% of the battery capacity in under 12 minutes." picks up CleanTechnica: "Dagery’s Tesla Model 3 Long Range was using firmware 2019.20.2.1. The vehicle had just driven 100 highway miles (161 km), and the battery was in a warm condition, in order to replicate a typical highway Supercharging session. The vehicle was plugged in at a low 2% state of charge, quickly shot up to the full 250 kW power, and added 50% of capacity in 11 minutes and 29 seconds from the start of the charge session! On the new Supercharger V3 curve, we can see that, after plugging in at 2% state of charge, the power ramped very fast, and the full 250 kW was reached by just 5%, and remained at full power until just before 22%."
IN 4 min 24 sec it recovered 65 miles of city range. And peaked at 1069 miles per hour. Or 193 miles of highway driving in 20 minutes, that will get you 2.5hours of driving.
AVID TECHNOLOGY PROJECT WITH CATERPILLAR GETS FUNDING BOOST
A project developed by Cramlington-based electric vehicle component manufacturer AVID Technology with construction machinery giant Caterpillar has secured a share of £33m from the government to help advance the UK’s low-carbon automotive capability.
The companies are to develop a fully electrified construction machine which emits zero tailpipe emissions and provides a low noise solution for off-highway applications.
The fully-electric powertrain will fulfil demanding environmental conditions and duty cycles required by the off-highway machinery market.
U.S. WAIVES TARIFFS ON JAPANESE ALUMINUM FOR TESLA BATTERY CELLS
"The u.s. commerce department has agreed to tesla's request to waive 10 percent tariffs on imported aluminum from Japan used in the manufacture of battery cells at Tesla's Nevada Gigafactory, government documents show. The Palo Alto, California-based company made the request in documents posted in April and said the aluminum is produced by Nippon Light Metal Co Ltd and was seeking a tariff exclusion for 10,000 tonnes annually." reports Reuters today: "Tesla previously sought other tariff exemptions from the U.S. Trade Representative's Office for Chinese-made parts, including the Model 3 car computer and the Autopilot "brain" that were rejected."

TESLA CEO ELON MUSK EXPLAINS ENHANCED SUMMON’S DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGE
"A third updated version of Tesla’s Enhanced Summon is set to be released to Early Access Program participants this week, according to CEO Elon Musk. The feature comprises a set of capabilities that allow drivers to operate their all-electric cars through the Tesla mobile app, specifically by having them autonomously travel to their location." says Dacia for Teslarati: "“Yeah, we’ve been working on curbs a *lot*. Concrete seams too. So glamorous,” he tweeted in response to an update request for Enhanced Summon. When asked what the most difficult part about concrete was, Musk replied, “Excessive shades of grey.” The CEO also jokingly noted that curbs with high contrast were his ‘favorite’."

AIRBUS CONSIDERING HYBRID SYSTEM FOR NEXT-GEN MAINSTREAM PASSENGER JET
"Airbus is looking into the possibility of going hybrid with the replacement for one version of its most mainstream jetliners, the narrow-body A320neo." says Green Car Reports: "A hybrid passenger plane might use electric propulsion at the wings and a single jet engine at the rear. Operationally, it would save the electric boost for takeoff and landing, when it’s needed either as peak power or as an extra measure of safety."
