Lizzie and the Makers
Episode 201, Jun 02, 2021, 09:02 PM
New York Based group Lizzie Edwards and the Makers (Makers as in their favorite bourbon) are set to release their full-length Dear Onda Wahl later this summer, and it’s poised for greatness. Produced by The Cure and former Bowie guitarist, Reeves Gabrels and Grammy-winning producer Mario McNulty who’s worked with the likes of David Bowie and Prince.
The bands’ sound delivers a dark, bluesy, soulful, feel --- with roots firmly planted in the world of classic and southern rock, influenced, they say, by director David Lynch and his hit 90s show, Twin Peaks.
They came together in 2011 when Edwards and guitarist Greg McMullen hastily formed for a festival at renowned music venue Pete's Candy Store, where she worked as a sound engineer and McMullen was a frequent performer.
The Makers are rounded-out by seasoned sidemen bassist Brett Bass (Gregg Allman, Bernie Worrell); drummer Steve Williams (Sadé, Digable Planets); and keyboard player Rob Clores (Black Crowes, John Popper Band.)
Lizzie Edwards is blessed with a powerful voice that has been compared to soul singer Ann Peebles, both Wilson sisters, and jazz legend Billie Holiday.
Edwards says she and the band are excited about things beginning to open up and being able to play in front of live audiences again, " I feel this kind of relentless urge to just get out there and play this album for everybody."
Fans of Lizzie and The Makers won’t have to wait too much longer, touring plans are underway to Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles and points in between, but not before two fifths of the group, Lizzie and keyboardist Rob Clores stopped by our LifeMinute studios in New York last week, to play the first two singles "Mermaid" and "Lover By Proxy" from the new album. Check it out.
