Juneteenth Part 2- Our Thoughts
Season 7, Episode 1, Aug 07, 2021, 04:30 PM
Welcome Back to Blue Moon Vibes! The podcast that makes you laugh a lil' bit, cry a lil' bit, and think a lil' bit! My goal is to be the one that gives you more than you asked! I hope you can find value in these topics, and they become something that you talk amongst your friends and family about! Don't shy away from challenging issues because that is where growth happens! The change you want to see is the change you must create! We are worthy, we are tenacious, we are strong, and we are purposeful! The only way to erase the divide is to come together as a nation and treat each other as people, with respect and courtesy!
It's Series 6 Episode 6 . Ms. Ella Jenkins said it best, Wade in the water, Wade in the water, children Wade in the water God's gonna trouble the water. See those people dressed in white They look like the children of the Israelites, Wade in the water Wade in the water, children Wade in the water, God's gonna trouble the water. Just like most negro spirituals, this one, too, had a message. Also, just like most, its message has been interpreted in different ways throughout history. My interpretation is that the lyrics were used to let the escaping slaves know which way to go—letting them know that the water is safer than the roads. As we take you all through today's episode, let us know in the comments what you believe Juneteenth signifies, and if you think that making it a national holiday was the first step, or were there steps missed in the process?
You will hear my thoughts on the topic, and I will share a story about an uninformed colleague, for which, as I have stated in previous episodes, it is our job to inform those that wish to know about our history. I will also share some of my unconscious biases and how I jumped to the defensive without thinking. You all know that we choose to provide you with entertainment that leaves a way for your interpretation because we believe that is the best conversation piece—not telling you how to think or what to say, just giving you something to talk about. We thank you all for being a part of our ever-evolving journey, and we plan to be here as long as you will have us!
