Defying Greg Abbott. How DISD’s Michael Hinojosa decided to lead Texas’ school mask movement

Deputy editorials editor Rudy Bush and the UNT System’s Paul Corliss talk with Michael Hinojosa, who is in his second tour of duty as the superintendent of one of Texas’ largest school districts. When Gov. Greg Abbott prohibited any mask mandates in school, Hinojosa thought nothing of it. Then the Delta variant struck, and the possibility of a failed school year loomed.
