A LifeMinute with Ann Wilson
Episode 246, May 11, 2022, 07:30 PM
It is pretty much universally agreed that Ann Wilson possesses one of the greatest voices in rock and roll history. Now, at 71-years-old, age has neither diminished her voice nor her gorgeous looks. She is most famous as the lead singer of the multi-platinum band Heart, with whom she and her younger sister Nancy has fronted since 1973.
With album sales exceeding more than 35 million and an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, there is no doubt that Wilson has been a trailblazer for all women rock performers that have followed in her footsteps. In 2007, Wilson dropped her first solo effort with the mostly covers release Hope & Glory, where she tackled songs by a who's who of some of rock’s greatest, such as John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, and Elton John, to name a few. This was followed 11 years later with another cover collection called Immortal. Wilson wears her wide range of influences on her sleeve with interpretations of songs by David Bowie, the Eagles, Lesley Gore, Tom Petty, Audioslave, and Amy Winehouse.
Fast Forward to 2022. Her latest release, Fierce Bliss, is a definite return to the more bombastic rock sound made famous by Heart. It's comprised of seven original tracks penned by Wilson during the pandemic lockdown and four cover songs. She is joined on this record by ace guitarists Warren Haynes and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, plus a duet with Vince Gill. Recording was primarily done at the legendary Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, And the album artwork was done by Roger Dean, famous for his covers for the groups YES and ASI, all of which only prove Wilson's classic rock street cred is intact.
LifeMinute caught up with the singer and got the scoop on the new record, current tour, and getting back together with sister Nancy next year to celebrate Hearts’ 50th anniversary with select tour dates. Wilson even shared plans about opening up a clothing boutique near her home in Florida. This is a LifeMinute with the legendary Ann Wilson.
