Opera Holland Park in London have been offering access for blind and partially sighted people to their summer season of opera productions for a number of years now with audio description provided by VocalEyes with introductory notes, touch tours and the live description too.
Well this year is no different with five of their opera productions being audio described including:
Carmen - Sunday 12 June,
Eugene Onegin - Sunday 19th June,
Little Women - Sunday 24 July,
Margot La Rouge/ Il Villi - Sunday 31 July,
and HMS Pinafore - Saturday 13 August,
all performances are at 2pm with a touch tour at 1pm.
RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey was joined by Alice Bezant from Opera Holland Park to firstly find out a bit of background to Opera Holland Park, why access is so important to the company and then a run down of each of the accessible opera productions for 2022.
Alice and Toby also talked about the touch tours and how they are a great opportunity to become more familiar with the costumes, set and props for the productions as well as an opportunity to meet some of the cast and crew too before discussing how accessible opera is and not as some people might think stuffy and maybe elitist which is definitely not the case with Opera Holland Park.
Alice also told Toby about two of the productions at Opera Holland Park this summer that she is really looking forward to and would recommend for people to book tickets for too.
