The Sync Report | Daniel Sackheim
Season 2, Episode 7, Jun 02, 2022, 07:00 AM
In this week’s episode we are joined by Emmy nominated TV and film Producer and Director Dan Sackheim!
Based on Dan’s incredible director and producer credits, you’d never guess that he was once an introverted engineering student. From dropping out of school to doing an apprenticeship with film editor Susan Booth, Dan chalks up his success to dumb luck, curiosity and daring to take risks.
Dan’s directing credits include Game of Thrones, True Detective, NYPD Blue, Better Call Saul, HBO’s The Leftovers, The Servant, Chicago PD, Chicago Fire and Ozark. He has executive produced or produced Jack Ryan, House M.D. and Emmy nominated Lovecraft Country.
Miami Vice was among Dan’s first projects. He was associate producer and music supervisor at a time when using popular music in film was still a relatively new concept.
His first directing job was for a pilot episode of Law & Order - the game changing TV show that went from being turned down by every network to setting the tone for procedurals on network television!
Why did Dan almost turn down his first directing gig? Why does he not like to direct more than 3 seasons of any TV show? Why did he suggest that Ozark sync the song “She’s Got a Mind” by Natural Child?
Music.
Music is the difference between a good film and a great one.
Stay tuned for the sync session when we are joined by musician Hayden Andrews and listen to some of his songs including a live rendition of one song:
