Yakutsk, in eastern Siberia, with average winter high temperatures consistently well below −0 °C (32 °F) and a record low of −64.4 °C (−83.9 °F), is the coldest city in the world. The Yakuts, also known as the Sakha people, migrated to the area during the 13th and 14th centuries from other parts of Siberia. When they arrived they mixed with other indigenous Siberians in the area.
