Charlie & Joey (Young & Sober): Maisy's Story
Season 3, Episode 75, Aug 29, 2022, 04:47 AM
Once a month Over The Influence is being taken over by Joey Duckworth and Charlie Martina, two people in their 20s who've decided to ditch booze and live life alcohol-free. In this episode, they talk to Maisy - a 22 year old who gave up alcohol 101 days ago!
Maisy talks to Charlie & Joey about what it was like to give up alcohol whilst in hospital. It wasn't just alcohol that contributed to her being admitted to a psychiatric ward, but it was definitely a factor - Maisy is also Charlie's younger sister, so Charlie speaks about what it was like for her as a family member at this point in her sister's life.
Maisy is incredibly brave and speaks very honestly about her experience in hospital, and what it's been like since. She talks about how important it is to her to maintain her sobriety since leaving hospital and about some of the reflections she had whilst she was there about her former life as a drinker.
If you feel as if you need any sort of help, with body or mind, the first thing is to make sure you talk to someone about how you're feeling - and book in with your doctor. It can feel scary to open up, and going in to hospital was scary for Maisy - but as you'll hear it was a time in her life that ultimately has helped her hugely.
