Caitlin Clark, Luka, The Joker & The Race Card Again
Episode 6, Apr 10, 2023, 01:00 PM
In this episode, I discuss how race plays a factor in the way we ingest sports and criticism, and how admitting our biases and having open dialogue can help us get closer to the society we would ultimately like to be part of.
Does everything have to be about race? Can we please stop playing the race card?
Despite the efforts of some to squash those conversations, every once in a while, we experience these flashpoints in our society that reminds us that racism and racial bias are alive and well, and ignoring them will not make them go away.
Recently, the conversations in the sports world around Nikola Jokic's NBA MVP campaign and Caitlin Clark's trash-talking during the women's NCAA basketball tournament have brought black and white folks back to the battleground.
In this episode, I discuss how race plays a factor in the way we ingest sports and criticism, and how admitting our biases and having open dialogue can help us get closer to the society we would ultimately like to be part of.
Maybe if, instead of coming out with knives and pitchforks, we took the time to have honest conversations with each other to better understand why we take the positions we take, we would be in a much better position the next time a point of conflict comes up.
