Ep. 112 - The Enyobeni Tavern Disaster
Season 3, Episode 112, Jan 22, 05:00 AM
Welcome back, estudiantes! Today’s episode begins around the 18:30 mark…we had a lot to chat about before we started.
In a tragic incident on June 25, 2022, 22 teenagers were found dead at Enyobeni Tavern in East London, sparking investigations into the circumstances. Underage access to the bar raised concerns and led to the revocation of its liquor license. Witnesses reported a suffocating smell, suggesting a possible gas leak, while forensic analysis hinted at substance ingestion or inhalation, with methanol identified as a potential factor. The ongoing investigation has resulted in arrests for serving alcohol to minors, and the South African National Civic Organization is supporting the victims' families. SAPS seeks public assistance as the community awaits answers.
