FAIRGROUNDS ST. PETE HOSTS MYSTICAL MERMAID MARCH  Radio St. Pete INSIDER news director Nanette Wiser caught up with Fairgrounds St. Pete’s Liz Dimmitt, CEO and Co-Founder about a fin-tastic celebration in March and what’s cooking this spring. Visitors can dive into a month-long “shell-ebration” of mermaids, individuality and finding your pod at none other than St. Pete’s iconic Mermaid Star Motel. In the midst of its wacky immersive installations celebrating all things Florida, Fairgrounds St. Pete invites visitors to embark on the underwater journey that is its Mystical Mermaid March! Launching Saturday, March 2, and running through the end of the month, Tampa Bay’s only immersive art and technology museum will offer mermaid-inspired events paying homage to a key part of the Sunshine State’s cultural fabric. Each weekend, the museum will host mermaid meet-and-greets alongside photo ops, watercolor portraits and face-painting fun! Other events include a Sirens Silent Disco, trunk show (featuring swimwear for the mermaid at heart) and a Talk and Tails panel discussion with Mertailor. Visitors will also be able to shop limited-time, artist-made collectibles and gifts, including creations by one of Fairgrounds St. Pete’s own Iona Parris Seashell Queen.

Just as Fairgrounds St. Pete has something to offer all ages year round, its Mystical Mermaid March features family-friendly events allowing those eight months to eighty years old—and every age in between—to get in on the magic.
Hear from Eric Ducharme, one of the stars of Netflix’s 2023 documentary MerPeople and creator of Mertailor LLC, and Fairgrounds St. Pete artist Iona Parris Seashell Queen about their journeys in a panel discussion moderated by the Tampa Bay Times’ Gabrielle Calise. Fairgrounds St. Pete is also inviting all local merpods to join this day for a reunion of merfolk.
