"Diversity Hire": Claudine Gay and Future of DEI
Harvard's first black president, Claudine Gay, resigned recently following several controversies over the past few months. But the real controversy, at least for this episode of Immigrantly, is the fact that regarding her resignation, conservatives (from billionaires to politicians) have been denouncing Gay as a "diversity hire."
If you're unfamiliar with the term, this is the perfect episode to listen to. Today, I'll be breaking down what "diversity hire" means, why it's harmful, and how it relates to a larger conversation around DEI or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
