The challenge to make children learn while seeming straightforward, seems to be rather daunting. Recent data in India shows almost 100% Gross Enrolment Rate (GER) for children in the age group of 3-10 years. What is the first step to ensure that attending school can equal learning? The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has clearly accorded the “highest priority to achieving foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) by all students by Grade 3,” has set a goal of achieving universal FLN in primary school by 2025, which will be carried out on a mission mode.
