Check out Alex's picks below:
Segment 1: Hot Foods
Hot Dogs - Super Duper Weenie in Fairfield has been pushing out specialty dogs, fresh cut french fries, burgers and nuggets for years. They redefine the classic American meal. Their hot dogs are split and grilled and laid onto a fresh-baked roll with their own homemade relishes and toppings. I’m personally ordering their New Yorker, which is mustard, sauerkraut, their hot relish and onion sauce.
Lobster Rolls - 7 Seas in Milford has a great hot lobster roll. Sauteed lobster meat served on a toasted buttery roll with a side of steak fries and creamy coleslaw. You can order a single or a double. Once you see the lobster roll posts on Instagram, you know summer in CT is officially here.
Grilled Cheese - The Fairfield Cheese Company in both Fairfield and Greenwich is a store that supports the American cheesemaker as well as other artisan food producers nationwide. They build relationships with small farms, importers and distributors to bring a wide variety of cheeses, charcuterie, oils, olives, pastas and much more. They make a really delicious old school grilled cheese, they feature different cheeses and hams and sourdough breads. You can eat one there or pick up the fresh ingredients to make one at home.
NE Clam Chowder - Stowe’s Seafood in West Haven serves up a delicious bowl of creamy New England Clam Chowder. I love the oyster crackers, it all screams summer in CT to me. They also offer a seafood chili, lobster bisque, and T.T. Gumbo in a cup or bowl size. I've also seen them make a tasty cajun crab chowder on their menu.
Segment 2: Cold Foods
Italian Ice - Micalizzi in Bridgeport has gourmet italian ice and ice cream, it’s really loved by the locals and loyal customers around. They have their mobile Brainfreeze Bar that can be used for events or parties. They have the classic italian ice flavors, like lemon, cherry, and watermelon, but also have swedish fish swirl, root beer, cotton candy and honeydew.
Iced Coffee - Cafe Atlantique in Milford is a great little spot where locals can go to dine, drink, and socialize. They have crepes and paninis, but most importantly, they partner with Connecticut roasters so their coffee is super fresh. On their Instagram, they share secret menu items of the week and in June they posted their Strawberry Shortcake Latte with Strawberry Whipped Cream with white mocha and strawberry rose syrup. A perfect iced coffee for the summer.
Soft Serve Ice Cream - Elena’s on Orange is a new neighborhood ice cream shop serving the best soft serve ice cream in the area. They have delicious flavors of the week, but stick with their vanilla, chocolate and seasonal rotating flavors mostly. They have homemade toppings,
and waffle cones, the signature chocolate dip, and an amazing chocolate chip cookie and brownie sundae. I've seen videos and it's mouthwatering.
Popsicles - PopCentric in North Haven is just the cutest place. They have been serving gourmet popsicles since 2015. They offer popsicles for both kids and adults, with unique flavor combinations and they strive to use fresh and local fruits, herbs and greens in every pop. Their Boozy Pops are pretty famous with caramel bourbon latte, creamy margarita, passion fruit bellini and a watermelon mojito. You can even get a puppy pop too with dog biscuit crumbles and a chew stick. - Private events
