PRSA Tampa Bay - Media Roundtable Recap with Ernest Hooper, Holly Hargett

Season 1, Episode 7712,   Jul 02, 06:28 PM

RadioStPete INSIDER news director Nanette Wiser asked journalists Holly Hargett and Ernest Hooper (Senior VP of Communications for United Way Suncoast, St. Pete Life Magazine columnist; seen here in this photo) what they learned at the PRSA Tampa Bay media roundtable 6/25 at the Poynter Institute.  Both Hooper and Hargett stressed the importance of building a story pitch based on fact and with a national hook made local, knowing what the publication/show might be looking for, providing story ideas and leads when possible to them (outside of your clients) to strengthen relationships and providing background, fact sheets, captioned photos, research, data and a strong story foundation that makes sense for both parties.

The event was an opportunity to  build relationships with local media and hear directly from key players on how to generate effective media coverage. The event also offers a great chance to network with dozens of PR colleagues from PRSA.
The program kicked off with a lively panel discussion, followed by a “speed networking” session during which the individual media representatives spend about 5 minutes visiting each guest table. For some, like Hooper, it was a TBTimes reunion of former reporters! Emceed by NPR's Eric Deggans, the panel featured Michael Van Sickler, Tampa Bay Times; Mary Shedden, WUSF; Jillian Ramos, WFTS-Ch. 28; Kerry Sanders, former senior national news correspondent with NBC News; Kathryn Varn, Axios Tampa Bay; Camille Knox, CBS News; Mariángeles Munoz, Univision Tampa Bay and Saundra Amrhein, Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

The next event is Professional Development Day at the Tampa Airport 8/24. PRSA Tampa Bay https://prsatampabay.org/index.php
