Green Light Cinema's Mike Hazlett & Station 12 Studio's Eugenie Bondurant

Season 1, Episode 7788,   Jul 30, 05:09 PM

RadioStPeteInsider news director Nanette Wiser caught up with Mike Hazlett, Green Light Cinema and Eugenie Bondurant, Station 12 Studio (which calls Green Light Cinema home) about Green Light's BIG NEWS. In July, Green Light Cinema pivoted and became a non-profit with a volunteer board, inviting donations to support Tampa Bay's only indie theater and art house in the face of a diminishing big screen movie world as streaming usurps the movie house audience. The appeal for donations netted $8,000 in one week, but it will take more individual/corporate financial support and ticket sales for this gem to continue to keep the lights on as an essential part of Tampa Bay's cultural arts gems.

Green Light Cinema Green Light Cinema, St. Pete’s independent 80 seat art house movie theater, is the brain child of Mike and Sue Hazlett; transplants from Boston. They saw a need for such a space in their new beloved city, and with Mike’s experience in the arts and Susie’s business acumen they have created this new, exciting space together. They screen a diverse line-up of indie films, documentaries, foreign films, classics, and local Tampa Bay area content created by their own community.  Mike has expanded offerings to Green Bench Brewery movie nights, hosts an annual Short Film challenge and is home to the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Starting in September, Green Light Cinema will screen The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with the local Hell on Heels kooky cast in house monthly. And there's more!  After hosting bi-monthly screenings for nearly two years at their theater, 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 @greenlightcinema —the best damn independent movie theater in the Bay area! This will be our new homebase moving forward, meaning we will be screening all of our curated programming at Green Light on the second Thursday of every month. Green Light is swiftly becoming Tampa Bay’s hub for all things cinema—and we couldn’t be more excited to join forces with them! Details on our August screening are coming soon, so stay tuned.   221 2nd Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
