GARY RUSSELL

Season 2, Episode 12,   Aug 26, 04:00 AM

Picking forlornly at his radiation-burned skin as the last of the pain meds runs out this week is Gary Russell. Surely one of the best-known people in Doctor Who fandom, Gary was a child actor, most famously appearing as Dick in The Famous Five. As well as countless other non-Doctor Who projects, books and dramas, Gary has worked on perhaps more roles linked to Doctor Who than anyone in the show’s history. As a writer, he was editor of Doctor Who Magazine in the early 1990s and has
penned several Dr Who novels including his latest – a novelisation of the first Fourteenth Doctor adventure The Star Beast. With Jason Haigh-Ellery he co-founded Big Finish in 1998 and, when Doctor Who returned in 2005, was part of Russell T Davies’ team. In addition, he’s produced and co-directed several of the Doctor Who animations and, perhaps most pertinently for this podcast, Gary has written several Doctor Who comics, for DWM and IDW and – currently – for us at Cutaway Comics.

Gary’s five choices to take into The Bunker are:

1. The 1969 Dr Who Annual
2. 1975 Weetabix set of Doctor Who cards
3. Inferno -- Doctor Who TV adventure, first broadcast in 1970
4. The Carnival of Monsters – Doctor Who TV adventure, first broadcast in 1973
5. The Robots of Death – Doctor Who TV adventure, first broadcast in 1977
