In this episode of Sunshine Sisters we meet Alizza Punzalan-Randle. St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch appointed Alizza as Managing Director for Communications and Community Engagement in October 2022.
Serving on Mayor Welch’s executive cabinet, she works with the Chief of Staff and a dedicated team focused on communications, marketing, media relations, and community engagement. A nonprofit enthusiast for nearly 25 years, Alizza’s career spans social services, pediatric health care, higher education, public broadcasting, visual and performing arts, and racial and social justice.
Prior to joining the City, she most recently held the roles of Chief Development Officer for St. Pete Free Clinic and CEO of YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley. A nonprofit enthusiast for nearly 25 years, Alizza earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Rhodes College in Memphis, where she sold Steinway pianos, performed as a professional accompanist, and began her nonprofit career as the Director of Public Relations for the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Other fulfilling roles include time spent at WUSF Public Broadcasting, Eckerd College, and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
Alizza is a graduate of Leadership St. Pete Class of 2003, Leadership Knoxville Class of 2020, and the Tampa Bay Public Leadership Institute. A servant leader, she has served on multiple boards and advisory councils, including Community Tampa Bay, Creative Clay, Knoxville’s and St. Petersburg’s chambers of commerce, Pinellas County Urban League, Rotary Club of St. Petersburg, the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area Citizen Advisory Committee, Suncoast Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, YWCA of Tampa Bay, and the YWCA USA National Coordinating Board.
Alizza is a past state president of the Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. (BPW/FL), and past local president of BPW/St. Petersburg-Pinellas.
In recognition of her commitment to civic and community engagement over the years,
Alizza was named to the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s “30 Under 30” list, Eckerd College faculty named her Staff Member of the Year, she was named a Pinellas County Local Hero in Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Awards, and she received a Racial Justice Award from YWCA of Tampa Bay. Alizza and her husband are the proud parents of two daughters.
