ALL THAT JAZZ Hot Tonic Josh Hindmarsh & Victoria Woods
Season 2, Episode 113, Sep 17, 05:50 PM
RadioStPete.com news director and host Nanette Wiser loves jazz, so when she saw Hot Tonic again recently at the James Museum, she couldn't wait to talk to the band. New Zealand’s Josh Hindmarsh and Ohio’s Victoria Woods are Hot Topic, the core of the Hot Tonic Orchestra who moved from Ohio to Gulfport six years ago. Gulfport was a perfect fit for the two. “We found the jazz scene in Tampa Bay to be welcoming and supportive. Gulfport is known nationally and internationally as an artistic musical community,” says Hindmarsh.
Described as Postmodern Jukebox meets Amy Winehouse, Hot Tonic Orchestra fuses jazz with Latin rhythms, funk and soul, tied together by original arrangements. With a recent Santana tribute at The Palladium, next up is a Beatles homage and a Burt Bacharach performance at a venue TBD. Coming up is an amazing show at Dunedin Brewery on October 5 with Kenny Anderson who played with Arturo Sandoval and Gloria Estefan.
In Gulfport, the play at the North End Tap House, the Tiki, Gulfport Brewery and the adjacent Wine Bar in addition to Grand Central Brewhouse, the Dunedin Smokehouse (9/20) , Tuesdays at the James Museum of Western Art & Wildlife and Evy’s in Clearwater Beach. With a CD in the works, and lots of original music, their high-energy performances are always one off, never the same as the Orchestra ebbs and flows around the duo with musicians such as Mark Griffith, James Suggs, Alex Nakhimovsky, Aaron West, Mark Williamson, Luis Remerez, Johnny Lippiet, James Sonnentag, Jim Rupp, Antoine Fatoot, Logan Moore, Lee Tucker, Jacob Campbell, Erik Augis and Louis Tsamous. In the works is a Tuesday jazz jam as well. In his "spare" time, Josh also teaches jazz and guitar to musicians and at State College of Florida. facebook.com/hottonicmusic
