Iphone 17 - what will it be like
Episode 2, Oct 12, 12:16 PM
The 2025 iPhone 17
While we’re still early in the iPhone 16 release cycle, rumors about the 2025 iPhone 17 models have already started circulating.
2025 could bring one of the most significant design updates since the iPhone X in 2017, with Apple reportedly planning to release a completely new iPhone 17 "slim," featuring a much thinner body, a new display size, a redesigned camera layout, and more.
We expect four models in total for 2025: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 17 slim, which may also be called "Air." The iPhone 17 Plus will no longer be part of the lineup, as Apple is discontinuing the "Plus" models. The slimmer iPhone 17 won’t replace the iPhone 17 Plus but will debut as a new addition to the lineup. While rumors are mixed, it’s expected that the slim iPhone 17 will feature a thinner body and a display around 6.6 inches. It has been compared to the MacBook Air, while the iPhone 17 Pro would be more akin to the MacBook Pro
Since the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to have 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, the iPhone 17 slim will fall between those two in terms of size. Apple might also increase the size of the standard iPhone 17.
Some rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 slim will be a high-end device, potentially more expensive than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, while others place it somewhere between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. One rumor mentions a narrower Dynamic Island and a centered camera, while another hints at a single-lens rear camera and a standard Dynamic Island. More concrete details are expected as 2025 approaches.
All four iPhones in 2025 are expected to feature ProMotion display technology, offering a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and video playback. Additionally, Apple is rumored to be working on an anti-reflective display that’s more scratch-resistant than the current Ceramic Shield.
Camera Updates: All iPhone 17 models are expected to feature a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with a six-element lens, an upgrade from the current 12-megapixel selfie camera. More megapixels mean greater detail and clearer images when cropping photos.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to come with a 48-megapixel Wide camera, a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, and a 48-megapixel Tetraprism Telephoto camera, making it the first iPhone with three 48-megapixel cameras.
At least one iPhone 17 model is rumored to feature a mechanical aperture, allowing users to adjust the amount of light hitting the lens. Current iPhones have fixed apertures, but a variable aperture would enable more creative control, especially for capturing shallow depth-of-field shots.
iPhone 17 Launch Date The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to launch in September 2025, following the 2024 release of the iPhone 16 models.
