Falling

"The title of my piece for the Autumn Project is called “Falling”. It is based on a field recording of fore and aft engine rooms on the Suur Toll museum ship in Tallinn Estonia.

"I was very drawn to the percussive metallic clangs in the recording. For me autumn has a definite impact on my senses, which reminds me of distinctive percussive sounds coming from unknown directions. I do a lot of walking, and this is my favorite time of the year to take in the visual and audio changes. They have a definite impact on how I see and react to my natural surrounding.

"Before starting the recording process, I did a long walk in the woods, and besides the crunching of twigs and grass, there was a bird that seemed to be following me as I walked, singing its song. This walking experience determined the sounds and direction of this piece. And the obvious title is from watching the colored leaves “Falling”."
