News Director Nanette Wiser spoke with Carl Lavender, the City of St. Petersburg's Chief Equity Officer and previewed the MLK Big Dream Weekend and talked about his work with Mayor Welch and the team, the initiatives past, present and going forward and why these issues are essential to create a better future for our community. MLK Dream Big 1/17-20. https://mlkdreambig.com/ In its 38th year, MLK Dream Big Parade is one of the Nation’s longest-running Martin Luther King Day Parades and is hosted by non-profit organization Advantage Village Academy. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday is January 15th. Annually, the federal MLK Jr. holiday is observed on the 3rd Monday of January each year. Advantage Village Academy (AVA) began and hosted St. Petersburg’s 1st Inaugural MLK, Jr. Family Fun Day in an effort to revitalize the holiday. Since it was a huge success, in 2017 the City asked AVA to reinvent the MLK, Jr. Family Fun Day and MLK, Jr. Parade. St. Pete’s MLK DREAM BIG CELEBRATION was born. The community is invited to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A diverse, vibrant city guided by principled progress and intentional inclusivity, where innovation, partnerships, and ingenuity create opportunity for all; we look to honor our past and pursue our future with this series of 38th Annual MLK Dream Big events.
