USF St. Pete journalism grad student Jazmen Poole continues her reports on interesting educators and researchers at local universities. She interviewed Dr. Shaun Harris, Associate Director at USF, who shared insights on how BSB impacts the community and how much this means being a part of an organization like this! Bulls Service Breaks (BSB) is the USF Tampa campus alternative spring break service program coordinated by the CLCE, which was expanded to include weekend trips at other points in the academic year to provide more opportunities for student service immersion. Dr. Shaun also wants people to know that the goal of the experiences is to engage in immersive, reflective programs and services focused on moving students from Volunteers to Conscientious to Community Collaborators on the Community Collaborator. BSB is a part of a national movement designed to raise awareness of root causes of social issues and injustices through education, direct service, and immersive cultural exchange. Each BSB trip is rooted in the Break Away Nine Components of a Quality Alternative Break, which are: strong direct service, orientation, education, training, reflection, reorientation, diversity and social justice, and full engagement.
