"The recording of dry leaves falling at Tikal in Guatemala made me think of similar sounds in nature, in particular rain and fire, and the long memories and unknowns of a place like Tikal, an ancient Mayan city located in a rainforest. did not want to alter or distort the original recording but used parts of it to underpin the shape of the piece, like the ground under our feet when we are making a colourful and maybe unpredictable journey through an unknown forest. The piece is named after Yum Kaax who was the Mayan god who protected the forest, plants and animals."
