Spencer & Monique Tepe: Michael McKee's Secret Malpractice Lawsuits Exposed

Before Michael McKee allegedly killed Spencer Tepe and Monique Tepe in their Columbus home, he was already disappearing. Court records from Nevada reveal two active lawsuits that McKee was evading in the months before the murders—lawsuits that expose a pattern of alleged negligence and concealment.

One lawsuit alleges McKee's surgical team left 8.6 inches of plastic catheter inside a patient during a July 2023 procedure at Las Vegas Surgical Associates. The patient required emergency surgery. The complaint accuses McKee and other defendants of concealing the error and failing to provide truthful medical records. A jury trial is set for July 2027.

A second lawsuit, filed in federal court, alleges McKee served on Nevada's prison medical review panel and repeatedly delayed care for an incarcerated patient. The result, according to the complaint: the man lost a testicle. McKee and other defendants deny the allegations.

When process servers tried to find McKee, he was gone. Fake addresses. A fax number instead of a phone. His own colleagues told servers he "just disappeared." The attorney handling the case told reporters it was only the second time in his career he'd had to serve someone by newspaper publication.

McKee has been charged with aggravated murder in the deaths of Spencer and Monique Tepe. He has indicated he will plead not guilty. Their two children, ages 4 and 1, were inside the home when their parents were killed. This episode examines what McKee was running from before he allegedly became a killer.
