Unexplainable things scare us because they break the mental framework we rely on to feel safe. Human beings are constantly trying to predict, categorize, and control the world around them, and when something happens that has no clear cause or logic, it creates a deep sense of vulnerability. The unknown becomes a blank space where imagination rushes in, often filling it with the worst possibilities.

Unexplainable events also suggest that reality might not be as stable as we believe: that there are forces or rules beyond our understanding. In horror, this loss of certainty is terrifying, because if something cannot be explained, it also cannot be easily stopped.
