Vigilantes are scary because they blur the line between justice and vengeance, acting without oversight, restraint, or accountability. There’s something deeply unsettling about a person who believes they are right enough to override every system in place, especially when anger, grief, or obsession fuels that belief. A vigilante doesn’t just threaten criminals; they threaten the idea that fairness requires rules. And once someone decides the rules no longer apply to them, there’s no telling where they’ll stop.
